"Blood hungry" police arrest Gaza demonstrators

Police are continuing to arrest protestors from the demonstrations on 3rd and 10th January against the Israeli attack on Gaza.

The policing of both protests was provocative and disproportionate, echoing the police tactics on the anti-Bush demo last June, which the Daily Mail called "blood hungry".

On the 3rd January, riot police directed demonstrators marching from Trafalgar Square to the Israeli Embassy into an underpass before repeatedly baton-charging them.

On 10th January, large numbers of demonstrators were injured as riot police attacked the 100,000 strong march with batons, riot shields and teargas, crushed marchers outside the embassy and held over 1,000 people in a cordon for several hours in sub-zero temperatures.

A number of demonstrators whose details were taken as they were released from the cordon have had their homes raided by anti-terror police and the Met now say that they are looking for several other people who attended the demos.

If you are contacted by the police, you should contact a solicitor immediately and make sure you don"t make any statements without your solicitor present.

Please also let Stop the War know as soon as possible on 020 7278 6694.

Stop the War will not tolerate police violence and intimidation against our demonstrators and is making a formal complaint to the Met.
