On 26 October 2014, the British army withdrew from Afghanistan, where it had been at war for 13 years. The UK government and generals said the ‘sacrifice’ of 453 British soldiers’ lives had been ‘worthwhile’ because they had made Afghanistan more secure and the streets of London safer from terrorist attack. This view was disputed by Lindsey German from Stop the War Coalition when she appeared on Sky News, 27/10/14.
