This branch notes:

  • Since 2015, the Saudi-led bombing and blockade of Yemen have killed tens of thousands of people and devastated the country in what the U.N. calls this the largest humanitarian crisis on earth.
  • Saudi Arabia is escalating its war and tightening its blockade.
  • The war is only possible because Western countries — and the United States and Britain in particular — continue to arm Saudi Arabia and provide military, political and logistical support for the war.
  • Organisations across the world have called a global day of protest against the war on 25 January, five days after the inauguration of the new US president.

This branch believes:

  • The disaster in Yemen is man-made. It is caused by the war and blockade. It can be ended.
  • The British government should stop all arms sales to Saudi Arabia, end all participation in the war on Yemen and publicly call for an end to sanctions and hostilities.

This branch resolves:

  • To support and publicise the protests on Jan 25th
  • To sign up to the call to action.
  • To encourage members to participate in protests on the day.
