Over 500 politicians, actors, artists, activists, journalists, booksellers, trade unionists, teachers and others sign letter calling on Foreign Secretary to pressure Israeli government

STOP PRESS: The Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem was raided for a second time on 11th March and Imad Muna was arrested. The open letter below has been re-opened, please add your name at the bottom of the list below the line here

We are outraged at the raid by Israeli forces on the Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem on 9 February and again on 11 March and the arrests of Mahmoud, Ahmad and Imad Muna. Selling books is not a crime.

The Israeli forces have chosen to attack a cultural and intellectual hub of the Palestinian people as well as a space where internationals in Jerusalem gather to learn and discuss current events, for no reason other than their role as a provider of education and a centre of community.

This underlines the campaign of erasure that Israel is waging against the Palestinian people, including genocidal violence in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank.

We call on the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Lammy, the British government and other states and international organisations to pressure the Israeli government to stop the attacks on the Educational Bookshop and on the Palestinian people and culture.
