Workers and students up and down the country will walk from workplaces and places of study in solidarity with the people of Palestine on Wednesday

Workers and students up and down the country will walk from workplaces and places of study in solidarity with the people of Palestine next Wednesday (7 February).

The Stand With Gaza workplace day of action, called by StWC and CND, will involve 30 minute stoppages, early morning and lunchtime protests, student protests, rallies and other actions to put pressure on the UK government to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Chris Nineham, StWC vice chair said:

“February 7 will mark a major escalation in our campaign against Israeli genocide. It’s shaping up to be the biggest day of action yet.

“For the first time people in hundreds of workplaces, universities and colleges around the country will walk out, protest or rally.

“For the first time three national unions, the NEU, PCS and UCU have backed workplace action for Palestine.

“The planned actions show our anti war movement is growing, but also growing more militant.”

Among the planned actions are a student walkout in Oxford, a Greater Glasgow school strike, a lunchtime meeting of council workers in Portsmouth, a rally of lecturers and students at Manchester University, similar action at the University of Suffolk and an event organised by NUJ members outside the Sheffield Star offices.

In central London, civil servants and other workers will join a lunchtime demonstration in Parliament Square called by the PCS union.

And Media Workers for Palestine have organised a protest and rally outside BBC Broadcasting House.

There will also be a trade union rally in central London on the eve of the day of action, with speakers from Unite, NEU, UCU and RMT.
