The need for the Stop the War movement has never been more urgent.
The post-World War II rules-based order is unravelling. In an attempt to reverse the US’s declining power, Trump has embraced protectionism and demanded payments from NATO while doing a ‘deal’ with Russia over Ukraine, to secure access to mineral rights and weaken Russia’s alliance with China – the US’s primary economic rival.
In the Middle East, Trump has discarded the ‘two-state’ solution for Palestine in favour of ethnic cleansing, continues to arm Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, supports Israel’s raids on Iran and Syria and has resumed US airstrikes on the Houthis in Yemen. This all continues a strategy of crushing any opposition to US dominance in the region and escalating conflict with Iran – a key trading partner for China in oil.
In the UK, Starmer acts as Trump’s lieutenant, supporting Israel’s war on Palestine and the US bombing of Yemen, while increasing military spending at the expense of welfare and disability support. Now he wants to send UK troops to Ukraine to continue a war on Russia and further risk global conflict.
